Port Blair-The Capital of Island:
The Chatam Island is one of the largest and the most beautiful Island in Port Blair.The Construction of the Cellular Jail begin from 1896 and was completed in 1906 with 698 cells.The Jail was constructed with seven wings,spreading out like a seven-petal flower.In its centre it had a tower with a turret.Connected to this were the three storey high seven wings with 698 isolated cells.
Havelock Islands-
Havelock Island mostly inhabited by Bengalis is situated nearby Port Blair.The villages in this imposing picturesque Island are identified with the numbers.The main bazaar is in village No :3 and the boat dock is in village No 1.Havelock Island is an ideal location for the enthusiasts tourists to engage in sunbathing, beach-combing, swimming, surfing, beach camping and snorkeling.The stunning beauty of the nature is the prime attraction of this Island.
Barren Island-
Barren the only active volcano in South Asia is a small island in eastern location of Andaman group of islands in Indian territory.This island lies 300 m above the sea level and the volcano in this place erupted last in 2006.A deep void land,the face of the volcano,is an attraction to the tourists.This is a barren region uninhabited by the people.This is a natural habitat for wild goats which live here by drinking the salt water,a unique feature of this island.
Corbyn’s Cove-
Corbyn’s Cove is a serene and unspoiled soft sandy beach in Andaman near to Port Blair.This beach is set in picturesque backgrounds of lush green coconut palms and pleasant sea.There is a pristine tourism Complex which offers all kinds of facilities for an enthusiastic traveler.The main attractions on this beach are the inviting water sports activities.
Little Andaman Island-
Little Andaman Island is one of the biggest island in Andaman.It is famed with a pristine beach at the location named Butler Bay and is credited with a stunning waterfall, Panchavati. While most of the Andaman Islands escaped major damage from the 2004 tsunami,Little Andaman wasn’t quite so lucky.It’s the most southerly of the Andaman and one of the larger islands in the chain.
Ross Island-
Ross Island which is accessible from Phoenix Bay Jetty through a boat ride is situated at the entry region of Port Blair harbor. Ross Island encloses an attractive swimming pool and museum Smritika established by Indian Navy.
Viper Island-
Viper Island named after the ship wreck event of a British trading ship named “Viper’ located near Port Blair.Viper Island is a serene beautiful tourist destination and can be approached by harbor cruise originating from Phoenix Bay Jetty in Port Blair.
Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park-
Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park also known as Wandoor Marine National Park, is a grandeur tourist attraction in Andaman.This is a fantastic National Park for Marine life in Andaman and is unique all over the world.The pristine beauty Jolly Buoy Island is a part of this National Park.The National Park encloses a stunning golden beach with soft sands and lush green surroundings dense with bushes and coconut palms.This is one of the world known scuba diving location in Andaman.One can get a close look of underwater marine life in the beaches of this National Park including corals and sea weeds.
Baratang Island-
Baratang Island is part of the Andaman and Nicobar group off the coast of India.It is about 90 km away from Port Blair.At Baratang one can see Mud Volcano which is about 4 km away from the jetty.Limestone Caves are located about 50 minutes (by sea) away from Baratang Jetty.Another must-see attraction is Parrot Island.The experience at Parrot Island at sunset when all the parrots are returning home.
Anthropological Museum-
Set up in 1975 at , this museum is a storehouse of the artifacts and materials of daily use by the tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands such as canoes, weapons, cloths etc.
Cellular Jail-
Completed in 1906, it has got its name from the isolated cells where the freedom fighters were imprisoned. The structure of the jail is comprised of seven three storied wings, with a central tower. The names of the freedom fighters are engraved on this watch tower. Today, Cellular Jail stands in a dilapidated condition as an aftermath of Japanese invasion and Tsunami more recently.
Mount Harriet-
It is high point on a hillock which provides a scenic view of the surrounding islands and also is a perfect place to enjoy sunrise.
Mini Zoo-
Though it is named as ‘mini’, it is comprised of some rare species of animals as well as birds found in the area.
Havelock Island-
Havelock Island is famous for its pristine beaches, coral reefs and for a relaxing holiday. Havelock Island is a very small Island and most of the population are Bengali settlers. The distance between Port Blair and Havelock Island is 30 kilometers( One of the Prime spot for Tourist after Portblair )
The Jetty-
Your first introduction to Havelock. Hustling and bustling at ferry arrival and departure times, full of fruit & vegetable sellers, coconut vendors and banana stealing goats.Otherwise a lazy meandering place dotted with small shops overlooking the crystal blue waters.
The Market-
2 km from the jetty, the heartbeat of Havelock, timid and intermittent in the morning, full of life and determination after 3 pm. Here is where the action is – from bananas to bright lit sweet stalls,from fresh veggies to fresh fish,from cold drinks to barber shops…a place of simplicity and wonder.
Vijaynagar Beach-
Vijay nagar beach also called as Beach No.5. 2 km from the market on the eastern side of the island is the home of The Wild Orchid – a long expanse of white sands that divides the lush tropical jungle and the aqua blue waters of the Andaman Sea.Its calm waters are both refreshing and relaxing. Here is where you can float in natural sea salts while surrounded by pristine nature. Still an undeveloped paradise, you can wander for miles undisturbed and in peace.
Radhanagar Beach-
Radha nagar beach also called as Beach No.7 which has been rated as the best beach of the island. 12 km from the market and 14 km from the jetty on the western side of the island.A great destination for a day trip and picnic lunches.This picturesque beach is a photographer’s dream – open seas,white sands,crashing waves and beautiful sunsets.
Elephant’s Beach-
10 km west of the market,another great day trip – either 30 minute hike on a jungle path or a one hour boat trip brings you to this uninhabited beach with waters that are dotted with coral reefs and bright tropical sea life.A perfect place for snorkeling experience.
