Haridwar
Haridwar is situated on the right side of the bank of the holy Ganga and is the point where the river spreads over the northern plains.Associated with both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu,Haridwar is among the seven sacred cities of India.It is also one of the four venues for the Kumbh Mela held in its magnitude every twelve years.Essentially a religious centre which holds promise of salvation for devotees. Rishikesh
A busy little town on the banks of the holy Ganges at the foot of the Himalayas,Rishikesh is the gateway to the Garhwal in the Himalayas.And an altitude of 1360 ft.Rishikesh is located precisely on the part in Uttaranchal known as Tehri-Garhwal region.A tour to Rishikesh is therefore important to the religiously inclined for its mythological importance. It is for the nature lovers who would simply love to be at green, quiet banks of Ganges flowing by at Rishikesh. Dehradun
Nestled in a wide and thickly forested valley of the Shivalik ranges, Dehradun is known for its salubrious climate. Falls In Mussoorie
Lal Tibba is the highest point in Mussoorie and one can reach the top of the peak by taking a horse ride or by foot.This place has some old buildings of British reign.A Japanese telescope is also placed at the top so that one can enjoy the breathtaking views around.Camel’s Back Point is a rock resembling the hump back of camel and hence is named so.
Auli
Auli,a popular destination for skiing adventurers,is located towards the north of the state of Uttaranchal.The steep slopes of Auli are as high as 9000 feet above sea level.The bitter cold winds,the vast snow-covered landscape,the sylvan mountains,all add up to make Auli a skier’s paradise.Skiers from far away throng to Auli from late November to Late March when Skiing festival and National Championships are held.

Corbett National Park
Jim Corbett National park is the oldest national park in India. It was established in 1936 as Hailey National park.After India’s independence the park was named as Ramganga National Park but later in 1956,it was named after Jim Corbett – the famous hunter turned conservationist and author,who played a major role in the establishment of national park.Jim Corbett National park is situated in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand (earlier known as Uttaranchal).Corbett National Park acts as a protected area of critically endangered Bengal Tiger of India;it is also one of the finest habitats of the tigers in India.Corbett National park is in the foothills of Himalayan belt and has various geographical and ecological characteristics with splendid landscapes. The national park is spread over 520 sq. Kms which includes the Kalagarh dam built on river Ramganga. It contains 500 different species of plants and diverse variety of fauna.The best time to visit is from November 15 to June 15 as it is open during that time. From June 16 to November 14,the Park is closed as monsoons flood the riverbeds and cut the fragile road links.
Kausani
Kausani is the perfect destination for those tourists who want to enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature.A picturesque hill station is located at an altitude of approximately 1890 meters from the sea level, in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. Kausani is surely an awe-inspiring location for nature-lovers.Mahatma Gandhi named it “The Switzerland of India”.
Ranikhet
Ranikhet,the ‘Queen’s Meadow’,is a small hill station that falls about 80 km away from Kausani.A sylvan,calm and striking town, it boasts of a number of attractions to keep you enchanted.Together with the vistas of the Himalayas,Ranikhet is popular forits two ancient temple,400 years old Jhoola Devi Ka Mandir and Kali Devi ka Mandir which has a large number of bells,picturesque picnic spots, splendid strolls and the exciting treks makes Ranikhet a popular tourist destination in India. 13 kms down the Almora road is Majhkhali which too is an idyllic picnic spot.Awe inspiring snow peaks and mountain streams running below the pine trees are attractions that will make oneself lose to nature.
Binsar
Once the ancient capital of the Chand Raj kings who ruled in the 7th and 8th centuries Binsar is an epitome of solitude, quietness and natural beauty for today’s traveler. Perched on top of Jhandi Dhar hills, Binsar is 35 km from Almora and is a notified forest reserve and bird sanctuary.There is no town called Binsar,not even a settlement of huts or anything,it is just the forest reserve that has been named Binsar.The placed affords wonderful views of the snowcapped Himalayan ranges like the peaks of Nanada Devi,Kedarnath,Chaukhamba,Trishul,Panchchuli and Nanda Kot.Binsar wildlife sanctuary was set up in 1988 and spreads over an area of 45.59 sq kms.Zero Point is the best place to see the enthralling view of the snow capped peaks of Kedarnath, Shivling,Trishul and Nanda Devi. Bineshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous 16th century temple and shrine of lord Shiva,8kms away.

Gangotri
Gangotri is Situated at an elevation of 3048 mt above sea level,the 20 ft high temple is made of white granite.It is said that king Bhagirath used to worship Lord Shiva at the sacred stone.Submerged Shivling:Inundated in water is the natural rock ‘Shivling’, which according to legend is where Lord Shiva sat to receive the Ganga in his matted locks.The shivling is visible in winters when the water level goes down.
Yamunotri
The Garhwal Himalayas have been blessed with some of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites and Yamunotri is one such.Perched at an altitude of 3293 meters above sea level, Yamunotri is located in the Uttarkashi district of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. One of the Char Dhams according to Hindu mythology, Yamunotri is the origin of the sacred river Yamuna.Famous for its thermal springs and glaciers,it is one of the most important stopovers on the itinerary of the Hindu pilgrim.
Badrinath
The abode of Lord Vishnu, Badrinath is situated in the Himalayas (Uttarakhand) at the height of approximately 3,124 meters above sea level.It is on the left bank of the river Alaknanda.Meandering rivers and the mountain range add to the beauty of this Holy Land.At one time the spot was covered with wild berries (“badris”) and was famous as the “Badri Van” (the garden of wild berries).The temple has a black stone idol that depicts Lord Vishnu – the preserver – in a meditative stance with both hands on his lap.Fed by the Badrinath glaciers and the holy Ganges,the sacred river Alaknanda flows by the temple.There is a hot water spring (Tapt Kund) near the temple.Rich in sulphur,a dip in Tapt Kund is considered holy and refreshing forbody and soul and is said to cure numerous ailments.
Kedarnath
Kedarnath is the most important Hindu shrine in Himalayas and among the major Shiva temples of the country.Located at the source of the river Mandakini,Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyothirlingas of Lord Shiva and one of the Panch Kedars.Mythology identifies the deity at Kedarnath temple with the rump of a bull,a form assumed by Lord Shiva.At the entrance of the temple is the statue of Nandi,the divine bull of Shiva.On the approach of winters in the month of November,the holy statue of Lord Shiva is carried down from Garhwal (Kedarkhand) to Ukhimath and is reinstated at Kedarnath in the first week of May.It is at this time that the doors of the temple are thrown open to pilgrims who flock from all parts of India for a holy pilgrimage.
Joshimath Adi Guru Sankaracharya who came all the way from Kerala in the 8th century A.D.performed penance under a tree and after attaining enlightenment, established a Math, (religious center) known as ‘Jyotirmath.The name Joshimath is derived from it.Temples of Narsingh Dev and Nav Durga is located here. Of special scenic interest are orchards of apple, apricots, lemons and maltas spread all over.Badrinath is just 44 km.from here.Joshimath is also a Gatway of Badrinath.
