Shimla
Shimla is situated in the north-west himalayas, and a capital of himachal pradesh.it was once famous as the summer capital of “the raj”.though evocative of a bygone ere,today it is a thriving capital of a state famous forits snowcapped peaks, apples,and pine forest,flowers and gentle smiling people.
The Mall
The mall like most hill stations in north india is the main shopping centre of shimla.it also has many restaurants,clubs, banks,bars,post offices and tourist offices.the gaiety theatre is also situated there.people walk up and down the mall slowly, stopping to gossip,as it is the main meeting place for everyone.the ridge and scandal point are the two main meeting points at the mall.
Barren Island
Barren the only active volcano in South Asia is a small island in eastern location of Andaman group of islands in Indian territory.This island lies 300 m above the sea level and the volcano in this place erupted last in 2006.A deep void land,the face of the volcano,is an attraction to the tourists.This is a barren region uninhabited by the people.This is a natural habitat for wild goats which live here by drinking the salt water,a unique feature of this island.
Christ Church
Situated on the ridge is christ church, which is the second oldest church in northern india. It has a very majestic appearance and inside there are stained glass windows which represent faith, hope, charity, fortitude, patience and humility.christ church is a place all visitors should visit in.
Jakhu Hill
2 Kms From Shimla,At A Height Of 8000 Ft,Jakhu Hill Is The Highest Peak And Offers A Beautiful View Of The Town And Of The Snow-Covered Himalayas.At The Top Of The Hill Is An Old Temple Of Hanuman Which Is Also The Home Of Countless Playful Monkeys Waiting To Be Fed By The Visitors.
Tara Devi
11kms from the shimla bus-stand.tara devi has a temple dedicated to the goddess of stars on top of the hill.there is a military dairy town here as well as the headquarters of bharat scouts and guides.at a height of 6,070 ft. Tara devi is an ideal place fora person wanting peace and some rest.
Naldehra
23 kms under a skyline etched with conifers,naldehra offers a well groomed nine-hole golf course; undulating hills and giant deodars, making a unique spot for picnics. Regular bus and taxi service is available. Hptdc restaurant, hotel golf glade and golf are some of the refreshing spots in naldehra.
Club Kfri
16 kms from shimla is well known for its ski slopes, commands good views.it also has a potato research station.
Manali
Manali is perhaps the main tourist center of the state of himachal pardesh. Thronged by the likes of honeymooners, hippies, trekkers and local tourists, manali has emerged as one of the main hill stations.
Anthropological Museum
Set up in 1975 at , this museum is a storehouse of the artifacts and materials of daily use by the tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands such as canoes, weapons, cloths etc.
Rohtang Pass
Situated about 51 kms from manali town at an altitude of 4,111 metres (13,400 ft) on the highway to keylong,is rohtang pass.now regular bus service plies over it from manali to keylong in lahaul district.here one sees the majesty of the mountains at its height and splendour.at the top of the pass the air seems to glitter against the snow as you look down over herringboned ridges into the lahaul valley.there is a beautiful dashohar lake left to the pass,where pilgrims go every year on the auspicious day of 20th bhadon.this is the only accessible route to lahaul valley.the pass is open from june to september each year although trekkers can cross the pass a little earlier.
Hadimba Devi Temple
With a four-tiered pagoda shaped roof and a front doorway carved with figures and symbols, the lovely temple stands as a mute tribute to the supreme artist who sacrificed the very hand with which he carved his pa en in wood to the goddess of the dhoongri temple- hadimba devi,wife of bhim–the pandva.every year in the month of may there is a major festival.
Jagatsukh
The one time capital of kullu.here are old temples dedicated to lord shiva and to sandhya gayatri.the arjun caves are just ahead.
Vashisth Bath
One of manali’s main attractions is a place to luxuriate in himachal tourism’s baths where the water of hot sulphur springs renowned for their medicinal qualities has been piped into baths.
Dalhousie
The dream destination of dalhousie is a happening hill resort in the hilly state of himachal pradesh.the hill resort of dalhousie has a charm of its own.the deodars and the pines,the cottages and the villas come together for a unique summer retreat.beauty captures the hearts of the tourists that flock to dalhousie year after year.the ravishing rhododendrons, the gorgeous greens and the pristine air add to the beauty of dalhousie.
The Market
2 km from the jetty, the heartbeat of Havelock, timid and intermittent in the morning, full of life and determination after 3 pm. Here is where the action is – from bananas to bright lit sweet stalls,from fresh veggies to fresh fish,from cold drinks to barber shops…a place of simplicity and wonder.
Khajjair
Around dalhousie are wealth of places which beckon those who have an eye for beauty or a nose for adventure. Khajjiar just 7 kilometers from dalhousie is an enchanting saucer shaped meadow fringed by cedar trees of great antiquity and stateliness.in the center of the grassy meadow at khajjiar lies a small lake.and on it,are two floating islands,sometimes hidden from view by the tall grass that grows on them.khajjiar,known as one of the “mini switzerland “,derives its name it is said from its ancient,golden domed temple of khajinag.a nine hole golf course is an added attraction at khajjiar.zorbing and horse riding are some of the activities done in khajjair.
Mcleod Ganj
The arrival of the tibetan spiritual leader the dalai lama along with thousands of refugees to dharamshala in 1959 made the life here more active. A number of tibetan settlements with religious education and other rehabilitation centres mushroomed all over the mcleadganj is situated in upper dharmshala. As dharamshala became the headquarter of the tibetan government in exile, headed by dalai lama, it gained prominence all over the world and prominent personalities started arriving here. Mcleadganj emerged as a major buddhist centre.
Kalatop
( 2,440 metres ) 8.5 km. The spot commands a beautiful and grand panoramic view of the surrounding landscape and eye travels wide over hill and dale,field and forest,smooth and ruggedness,till in the direction of jammu and kashmir,it meets a horizon of snow peaks.this wild life sanctuary is home to the ‘ghoral’ and himalayan black bear.
Bhagsunag Fall
(11 km.from dharamshala town ) known for its old temple,a fresh water spring, water falls and slate quarries. Bhagsunag can be approached by road. The bhagsu fall is one of the main attractions of mcleodganj. You can take a dip in the chilly water of fall. There are some trek routes to triund near the fall. The fall forms a small stream.
St. John’s Church
( 8 km.from dharamshala town ) the church lies in the forest between mcleod ganj and forsyth ganj .it has a monument dedicated to lord elgin, one of the viceroys of india, who died at chauntra ( mandi district ) and was buried here in 1863 a.d. The church has lovely spotted glass windows and a christian cemetery around it .it is ideally situated in the majestic ‘deodar’ forest.
Dal Lake
Dal lake lies amidst hills and deodar tress and is 11 km. From lower dhramshala.it is a starting point for excursion and trekking and is located next to tibetan children’s village. You can have a memorable walk around the lake. Held sacred, this has a small shiva temple on its banks. The banks of the lake are enlivened every september by a fair attended – amongst others- by a large number of migrant gaddi folk.
Parwanoo
Parwanoo is a picturesque hill station on the borders of haryana and himachal pradesh, surrounded by hillocks covered with Lush green vegetation. Timber trail heights is situated in the small, quaint town of parwanoo, 35kms from chandigarh and 80kms from shimla. The resort is uniquely perched on the top of a hill and is accessible only by cable car .it is a spectacular, breathtaking ride to reach the resort, with excellent views of the valley.

Himachal has allowed its people to evolve their own unique tradition of handicrafts. The mind-boggling range includes fine woodwork, traditional leather embroidery, beautifully patterned carpets, traditional woollen shawls and lots of other things, metalwork.
Food
There are many specific varieties that one can get in himachal pradesh.a long-time relationship with punjab and large-scale migration of tibetans ensured the impact of the tibetan and punjabi cuisine in himachal.dishes made from salayara and an iron rich cereal called kodra form part of the regular food.sattu,another nutritious item is made use of on daily basis. There are festival dishes that are prepared in himachal pradesh.ankalos are made of rice flour while aktori,a cake is prepared by mixing leaves of buckwheat with wheat flour.then,there is also patande which is a type of pancake dish.
